My name is Alison Burrnyiḏiḏi Ganambarr, I was born on the 1st of June 1960. I am from the Dhuwa Moiety and my Skin Name is Galikali. I’m from the Ḏäṯiwuy clan, from our homeland called Rorruwuy, which is on the mainland near Nhulunbuy, but I live on Galiwinku at Elcho Island most of the time. I have five sons and 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
I learned to make art at Galiwinku from my Great Grandmothers, Grandmothers and Aunts when I was a young adult, this is when I first started to make weavings.
Art is important to me because I need to teach my grandchildren our culture of art making. My favourite art is weaving baskets and mats and sometimes I weave on steel lamp shade frames for Koskela Gallery in Sydney.
